Mac os X on an elder mac?

I currently enjoy a macbook that runs os x. Unfortunately it has some serious issues and will prob. necessitate a new motherboard. I'm not going to clear the $600 to get that replaced because i would still hold a laptop that needs a untried monitor. So i was thinking: Can i install 10.3 on a G3 dv 400? I realize thats not exactly a unadulterated fast processor. Currently it have 128 megs of ram. I looked on the apple network site and it is not real cooperative. I have a 10.3 disk from a G5 my parents hold. The G5 is currently running a version of 10.4 (some repair shop installed that). What i be thinking is can i install os x 10.3 on the G3 after upgrading the G3 with the macbook's firm drive, then install the dvd-rw drive. Also if this is possible i will do the mandatory $13 ram upgrade. I know that the motherboard have only usb 1. It does own firewire 400 ports though. Is this computer fast adequate to run? Otherwise, can someone give me an concept what building a G4 will cost?

I say travel for it.. But don't move anything and just install it. It should be fine but only just put in an extra 128mb of knock against since 128mb is the minimum.

That is what I love about Apple, why don't you try running XP on a computer older as that lol..
Yea You should be able to. Ive run 10.4 on a G3 400 next to 512 ram and it run fine. And my friend had 10.4 on his G3 350 next to 128 ram and it run at usable speeds. And to buy a G4 off ebay or craigslist is around 100-200 for a Powermac G4 and 300-1000 for a powerbook g4 (alunimum or titanium) and roughly speaking 400-700 for ibook g4.
